Elysa’s radio journey began at just 17, starting out on the promo team handing out stickers at events. By the age of 19, she’d already landed a full-time presenting job — cutting her teeth at local stations including 2CR FM, Fire and Mix 106, where she learned from some of the best in the business.

 

In 2007, Elysa swapped the studio for the skies, joining British Airways as cabin crew. For over a decade, she flew long haul — but even then, passengers constantly told her she had “a voice for radio” every time she picked up the mic for an onboard announcement.

 

That voice eventually brought her back to broadcasting, joining Hot Radio to co-host a weekend show with Dave Webster. The pair presented live from the Bournemouth Air Festival, battled it out in the weekly Elysa Versus Dave challenge, and even staged a Pandemic Panto during Christmas 2020.

 

When lockdown hit, Elysa launched The Road To Rock Podcast, giving artists and venues a platform at a time when the music industry was struggling. Now in its third season with listeners worldwide, it paved the way for The Road To Rock Radio Show, where she plays the music the podcast couldn’t — championing rock in all its forms while showcasing the huge range of local talent, often with bands joining her live in the studio.

 

When she’s not on air, you’ll probably find Elysa at a gig, a festival, or out on a road trip with friends. Because even after a decade of long-haul flying, the travelling never really stops

 

First album you bought?

👉 Linkin Park – Hybrid Theory (I was late to the game with albums… apart from the Now compilations!)

Best gig you’ve ever been to?

👉 The Foo Fighters at Rock In Rio in 2019. I had an AAA pass which let me hang out backstage in their dressing rooms and drink with The Goo Goo Dolls. I know, it sounds like a dream — but it happened!

Favourite artist of all time?

👉 Def Leppard — their music brings me so much joy and so many happy memories of seeing them live around the world. Long may the Sheffield rockers roll!

Song you can’t resist singing along to?

👉 Nickelback – Rockstar. Everyone loves singing along to that one!

Favourite place in BCP?

👉 Poole Old Town — so many lovely old pubs and restaurants. Who wouldn’t want to drink in the same places smugglers and pirates once did?
