Hot Radio backs local talent in the Disability Film Challenge
Hot Radio is proud to shine a light on a brilliant piece of filmmaking from our area — and it comes with a message that matters.
Local filmmaker Dave Young and the team at The Shouting Mute have been selected to take part in the Easterseals Disability Film Challenge, an international competition designed to bring filmmakers with and without disabilities together to tell authentic, original stories.
What is the Easterseals Disability Film Challenge?
The Disability Film Challenge is a fast-paced five-day filmmaking contest. Teams are challenged to:
- Write a short film
- Produce it
- Complete it
All within just five days.
The goal is simple (and powerful): create opportunities for collaboration and storytelling that showcases disability in its many forms — on screen and behind the scenes.
And because breaking into the film and TV industry can be notoriously difficult, the Challenge also offers something huge: winners gain access to entertainment professionals, opening doors that can be hard to reach any other way.

This year’s theme: Dramedy
This year, the Challenge is focusing on the genre of dramedy — stories that blend humour with heart.
That makes it the perfect space for films that feel real, relatable, and human… because life is rarely just one thing.
