Beautiful beaches in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole retain Blue Flag status
Beaches across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole have once again retained their Blue Flag status, underlining the area’s reputation as one of the UK’s leading coastal destinations.
The awards reflect the consistently high standards delivered throughout the year by the Council’s seafront teams, supported by partners, businesses and community organisations who work together to keep local beaches clean, safe and welcoming.
Which beaches have a Blue Flag this summer?
This summer, six beaches have received Keep Britain Tidy’s Blue Flag award — a globally respected mark of excellence for water quality, environmental management, safety and visitor services.
The Blue Flag beaches are:
- Sandbanks
- Shore Road
- Canford Cliffs
- Durley Chine
- Fisherman’s Walk
- Highcliffe Beach
A special mention goes to Sandbanks, which has been awarded Blue Flag status every year since the awards began — marking its 39th year of accreditation.
Seaside Awards also confirmed
Each of the six Blue Flag beaches has also received a Seaside Award, which is nationally recognised proof that they offer a high-quality, well-managed and clean environment.
In addition, three more beaches have received Seaside Awards:
- Bournemouth
- Boscombe
- Avon Beach
Avon Beach: still a favourite, despite a paperwork issue
Avon Beach does not have a Blue Flag this year due to an administrative error.
But anyone who knows and loves Avon Beach will tell you its appeal goes far beyond any single accreditation. Locals and visitors can continue to feel confident in the beach’s exceptional standard of care and quality throughout the year.
With its well-maintained promenades, thoughtfully managed facilities and a vibrant mix of cafés, kiosks and amenities — including a popular beach sauna and The Noisy Lobster restaurant — Avon Beach will still be a big draw for Christchurch Bay this summer.
Council thanks teams, partners and sponsors
Councillor Richard Herrett, Portfolio Holder for Destination, Leisure, and Commercial Operations at BCP Council, said:
“These awards highlight the consistently high standards maintained across our coastline and the dedication of the teams who deliver them daily.
“While awards are important recognition, what matters most is the quality of the experience on our beaches, which we are committed to maintaining across all locations.
“I’d like to thank all of our stakeholders and partners that help maintain our coastline, and particularly the sponsors of the flags and awards that allow us to continue to showcase the work.
“We will continue to work with partners to ensure our coastline remains one of the best in the country.”
The council also thanked its partners and sponsors — including local Business Improvement Districts, community organisations and businesses — whose continued support plays a vital role in securing and maintaining these awards.
A coastline to be proud of
Together, these accolades demonstrate the strength and consistency of standards across the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole coastline, helping ensure that residents and visitors can enjoy clean, safe and well-managed beaches throughout the summer.
