How to rescan your DAB radio

The wording varies by model, but the steps are usually similar:

1. Press Menu or Settings.
2. Look for Scan, Auto Scan, Full Scan, or Station Scan.
3. Select it, and wait for the scan to complete.
4. Search the station list for Hot Radio.
5. Save Hot Radio as a Favourite (or Preset).

If you still can’t find us on DAB

• Try moving the radio closer to a window, and scan again.
• If you’re using an aerial, check it’s securely connected.
• If your radio has a Factory Reset option, try a rescan first — only reset if you’re comfortable doing so.

The atmosphere was friendly, relaxed, and genuinely welcoming — exactly the sort of place where you can ask questions, have a look around at your own pace, and feel completely looked after whether you’re a seasoned motorhome fan or a total newbie.

Karl and Holly… on their best behaviour (mostly)

Now, we should probably mention: Karl and Holly were on their best behaviour… well, kind of.

Let’s just say there was a slightly mischievous moment during the show… and it may or may not have involved one of the toilets. We’ll leave the rest to your imagination. If you missed it live, you can listen again.

If you’ve ever wondered what pure joy looks like, I can confirm it’s a muddy dog, a wagging tail, and a finish-line grin. Today, JoJo and Sparky headed to the Muddy Dog Dash 2026 at Upton Country Park, Poole — and it was one of those days that reminds you how brilliant community events can be.

From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was spot-on: friendly people, excited pups of every shape and size, and that shared “we’re all in this together” energy you only get when everyone’s about to get absolutely filthy for a good cause.

Better still, the day was all about raising money for an incredible local charity, Lewis-Manning Hospice Care.

A dog-tastic obstacle course (for all abilities)

The Muddy Dog Dash is exactly what it sounds like — a muddy obstacle course you can tackle either with your four-legged best mate or on your own.

There were two route options (2.5km or 5km), which made it really accessible whether you’re up for a gentle challenge or you fancy going all-in. Along the way, the course delivered plenty of classic muddy fun: ditches, tunnels, wiggle poles, jumps and more.

JoJo and Sparky were in their element — charging into the messy bits, making new furry friends, and generally living their best lives. And honestly? Watching dogs discover mud like it’s the greatest invention of all time is a mood-lifter we could all do with.

The Event Village: stalls, treats, and things to try

One of the best parts of the day was the Event Village, which gave everyone a chance to refuel, browse, and have a wander (while comparing just how muddy everyone had managed to get).

There was a great mix of stalls and dog-focused businesses, including:

It was a brilliant showcase of “most fabulous furry friends” — and the kind of thing that makes you smile even if you don’t know a single dog there (though let’s be honest, you’ll end up chatting to everyone anyway).

A local 10-year-old boy from Wallisdown, Frankie Whitworth, has been taking on a bike challenge throughout March — and it’s one of those feel-good stories that really deserves a spotlight.

This morning, Frankie joined Karl on the Hot Radio Breakfast Show, along with his mum Jade and dad Dan, to share how the challenge has been going and to thank everyone who’s been backing him.

150 miles ridden (and still going)

Frankie set himself a 100-mile bike challenge for March, but he’s already gone way beyond that.

So far, Frankie has ridden around 150 miles — which is roughly like cycling from Bournemouth to Birmingham.

And he’s done it the hard way too. Frankie’s dad, Dan, rides alongside him and (in Frankie’s words) doesn’t make it easy.

One of their biggest rides so far was 23.5 miles, taking them all around Bournemouth and Poole — with plenty of hills.

When asked how it’s going, Frankie simply said: “It’s going well and I’m really enjoying it.”

Raising money for Dorset Mind

After his grandad passed away suddenly, Frankie decided to take on this epic challenge to raise money for Dorset Mind.

They’re raising money for an amazing local cause, and also helping highlight the issues around mental health — and the support people need.

The response from the community has been incredible. Frankie originally aimed to raise £500, but he’s already raised over £3,000.

Frankie’s mum and dad, Jade and Dan, have been right there with him — helping him keep going, mile after mile.

Final ride: Bournemouth BMX track

Frankie’s final ride is happening at Bournemouth BMX track this Sunday — and he’d be absolutely over the moon to know people are cheering him on.

A local family is turning heartbreak into something hopeful after the sudden loss of a much-loved Dad and Grandad.

In loving memory of Grandad

Frankie is just 10 years old, but he’s chosen a powerful way to honour his Grandad’s memory. Throughout March, Frankie has been riding his bike to remember and celebrate his Grandad’s life — with his dad riding alongside him.

Frankie originally aimed to raise £500, but he’s absolutely smashed that target. With one week still to go, he’s already raised more than £3,000.

100+ miles for Dorset Mind

Frankie has now ridden over 100 miles for Dorset Mind, raising money and awareness for mental health — and showing what a huge heart a 10-year-old can have.

His family shared that Frankie has worked incredibly hard to support such an important cause, and to help raise awareness for other people’s mental health after losing his Grandad last month.

Frankie will be doing his final lap at Bournemouth BMX track on 29 March, and he’d be absolutely over the moon if the community could help spread the word and support him.

If you watched Britain’s Got Talent last week, chances are you’re still talking about SOS — the Bournemouth lads who kicked off the show with a bold, heavy-rock twist on the Backstreet Boys classic “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)”.

They didn’t just wake the audience up — they won over the judges too, picking up four yeses from Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and KSI.

JV and Sparxx joined Karl in the studio

This week, JV and Sparxx popped into the Hot Radio studio to chat with Karl about what the whole experience has really been like — and honestly, they couldn’t have been lovelier.

They talked about the surreal moments you don’t always see on TV, including:

• Meeting childhood heroes Ant & Dec
• The moment they realised Dick and Dom had slid into their DMs
• And the fact KSI is clearly a big fan of theirs now

From top-secret auditions to a nation going wild

One of the biggest things the lads shared was just how much of BGT is a secret mission at first.

They described the early auditions as top secret, keeping everything quiet while trying to stay focused and not let the nerves take over. Then came the emotional whiplash: the long wait, the silence, the “can’t tell anyone” stage… followed by the sudden switch to pure excitement when the episode finally aired.

And once it aired? The response has been massive.

The lads told Karl they’ve had so much love and support coming in from across the country — messages, comments, people sharing the clip, and a real sense that the nation has properly taken them to heart.

How SOS started — and what’s coming next

JV and Sparxx also opened up about how the band got together, their local roots, and the behind-the-scenes graft that goes into making a moment like BGT happen.

They chatted about:

• Where they rehearse locally
• The work that goes in when nobody’s watching
• And what’s still to come from SOS — because this is very much just the beginning

What happens now?

Right now, their fate is in the hands of the judges as they decide who will be taken through to the live finals.

But whatever happens next, one thing’s already clear: SOS have achieved something huge, and the whole area should be proud.

They’ve put Bournemouth on the map in the best possible way — with talent, energy, and a proper sense of who they are.

Karl’s “offer”

Of course, Karl couldn’t resist having a little fun.

He told the lads that if it doesn’t work out on BGT, then he knows exactly what SOS are missing:

“A middle-aged, wanna-be radio presenter is the missing ingredient.”

A cheeky offer of services, to say the least.

The lads were kind enough to humour him… but let’s be honest — it’s very unlikely they’re going to need Karl. They’re good enough to go all the way on their own.

A massive congratulations to the team at Impressions Care Solutions for an incredible February fundraising effort in support of Cancer Research UK.

Throughout the month, Karen Shillcock (Business Development Manager) took on Cancer Research UK’s February challenge by committing to complete squats every day. What started as a personal goal quickly turned into a team mission when colleagues Shannon Gray and Becky Morgan joined in — forming the brilliant “Squat Squad”.

Together, the trio pushed through the challenge day after day, completing 100 squats per day and inspiring support from across their workplace and wider circles. Their original fundraising goal was modest, but their determination (and consistency) helped them smash past it.

By the end of February, the Squat Squad had raised an impressive £1,180.69 for Cancer Research UK.

Karen said:

“What started as a personal challenge quickly became a team effort. It hasn’t been easy, but the encouragement and generosity we’ve received has been incredible, and it’s made every squat worthwhile.”

As well as raising money for a vital cause, the team also shared that the challenge brought some unexpected positives — including feeling fitter and more energised — and they’re planning to keep their daily squats going during office break times.

From all of us at Hot Radio, congratulations again to Karen, Shannon and Becky. What a brilliant example of local people doing something simple, consistent, and genuinely impactful.

After a busy February away producing an international theatre tour in Europe, Karl’s back where he belongs — starting your day with big energy, plenty of laughs, and the kind of feel-good music that makes the school run and the commute a whole lot easier.

Where’s Karl been?

Alongside radio presenting, Karl produces international theatre tours — and throughout February he travelled over to Europe to produce another show that is currently touring Scandinavia.

So while we’ve been wrapped up in coats and car de-icers, Karl’s been busy behind the scenes making the magic happen on the road. But now? He’s home, he’s caffeinated, and he’s ready to get stuck back into Breakfast.

A massive thank you to Mark Rush Palmer

While Karl was away, Mark Rush Palmer stepped in and absolutely smashed it.

He made sure you still got your daily dose of the School Run Riddle, and he even had a go at the “Shoo-Be-Doo-Be-Doo’s” (which were hilarious).

Now Karl’s back, Mark moves back into his regular slot on the Morning Show from 10am – 12pm. We don’t think he’ll be taking the “Shoo-Be-Doo-Be-Doo’s” with him… but he will be bringing the Kazoo Game every weekday morning.

Holly joins Karl on Breakfast (wish her luck)

March is shaping up to be a big one — because Holly will be joining Karl on Breakfast, doing her best to keep him from being too mischievous.

Karl welcomed a brilliant guest into the studio on Breakfast this morning — Rob Amey from Longfleet FC, a passionate advocate for making football accessible to everyone.

Rob is Director of Inclusion at Longfleet FC, where he supports the coaches delivering the club’s disability football programme. He shared what inclusive sport can mean for individuals and families — not just in terms of fitness, but confidence, friendships, routine, and feeling part of something local.

Rob also spoke about his wider work across the county as the Dorset FA Disability Football Ambassador. A key part of that role is helping other clubs and teams who want to start (or improve) disability football provision — offering guidance, encouragement, and practical support to get sessions up and running.

For us at Hot Radio, conversations like this matter. Community sport is one of the strongest ways to bring people together — and it’s even more powerful when it’s built around inclusion, opportunity, and a warm welcome.

Amelia has been taking on the Run 2K a Day January Challenge, raising money for Sands, the baby loss charity. The original target was £175, but with four days still to go, Amelia has already raised an amazing £468.45.

Amelia, along with her mum and dad Kayley and Matt, joined Karl in the studio this morning on the Hot Radio Breakfast Show, where we chatted about her incredible achievement and the determination it’s taken to keep going every day.

She also wanted to give a big shoutout to all of her friends at Lytchett Matravers Primary School — who’ve been cheering her on throughout the challenge.

And Amelia hasn’t been doing it alone: Poole Rugby Club also got behind her and joined her for a run last Sunday, helping to make it an even more special moment (and a big boost when the legs are starting to feel it!).

A fundraiser has been launched in memory of Adam McClelland, a devoted father of two from Poole who tragically lost his life following a collision on Wimborne Road earlier this month.

Adam, aged 26, was found unresponsive in the early hours near the junction with Heath Avenue in the Oakdale area. Emergency services attended, but sadly, Adam could not be saved. Dorset Police have confirmed that Adam was involved in a collision with a vehicle that failed to stop, and investigations are ongoing.

Adam’s family has set up a fundraising page to help cover funeral and memorial costs, aiming to give Adam the dignified farewell he deserves. Any additional funds raised will be placed into a fund for his two young sons, helping to provide a small safety net for their future.

The outpouring of support from the community has been overwhelming, with friends, neighbours, and local residents coming together to offer condolences and donations. Adam was known for his love of football, especially as an Arsenal fan, and for the joy he found in spending time with his boys.

Adam’s family shared: “Thank you so much for your kind words at this time of utter devastation in our lives. Every single message is comforting us and helping to keep Adam's memory alive. We want Adam's legacy carried on through his beautiful children.”

This move is all about boosting health and wellbeing, encouraging families to stay active, and making it easier to enjoy everything our towns have to offer without worrying about the cost. With living expenses still high, every little helps—and this scheme is a practical way to support local people.

Council leader Millie Earl says the aim is to protect services, invest in play areas and green spaces, and keep the community thriving. A few days ago, a post appeared in a Poole community Facebook group asking about a brilliant young busker performing on the high street in Poole. People were talking about how he was singing Ed Sheeran, Coldplay and Oasis, how his voice was “absolutely brilliant” - and how one listener even felt emotional just standing there listening.

Very quickly, the comments named him: 17-year-old Jordan Doherty, from West Howe.

Jordan’s got big ambitions of becoming a professional singer, and he’s already been out there doing what he loves – performing on the streets of Poole and putting smiles on people’s faces. The community clearly noticed.

From Facebook comments to the Hot Radio studio

After seeing all the love for Jordan on social media, we did a bit of digging, found his details, and gave him a call on Thursday. We asked if he’d like to come into the Hot Radio studio the very next morning to chat on the Breakfast Show and perform live on air... He said yes.

On Friday morning (21st November), Jordan joined Karl in the studio. They chatted about his music, his dreams, and what it’s like busking in Poole – and then Jordan performed Ed Sheeran’s “Perfect” live on Hot Radio.

Listeners loved him

While he was singing, the messages started coming in.
